Vancouver police say the Independent Investigations Office and the B.C. Coroners Service are looking into the death of a 58-year-old woman who was in police custody.

Police arrested the woman shortly after 6 a.m. on Dec. 15 after a 911 complaint about her. She was arrested and taken to jail in a police wagon.

However, when the police arrived at the jail, they found her unresponsive in the wagon. Paramedics were called, but the woman died on Dec. 23 in hospital.

The cause of death is not "readily apparent," VPD said in a statement. The coroner will determine how she died.
