The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is looking into a suspicious death following a car accident in Surrey Friday evening.

The accident happened around 9:15 p.m. in the 7900 block of 123A street in Newton, a residential area.

When Surrey RCMP arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from injuries they say were "inconsistent" with a car crash. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

The man was taken to hospital, but died a short time later. IHIT was called in to take over the probe.

"We are in the evidence gathering stage at this time and expect to have the area closed off to public access for several hours," said Sgt. Stephanie Ashton of IHIT, in a statement.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448).
