Hit-and-run crash in Vancouver injures motorcyclists

A man and a woman were taken to hospital with serious injuries after being struck on their motorcycle by a hit-and-run driver, according to Vancouver police.

A 41-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were taken to hospital with serious injuries after being struck on their motorcycle by a hit-and-run driver, according to Vancouver police.

The crash happened just after 1 a.m. PT Wednesday at the intersection of Victoria Drive and E 43rd Avenue in Vancouver. 

Police say the motorcyclists suffered a variety of injuries, including head and neck injuries, as well as broken bones.

Const. Brian Montague said police are looking for the Asian male driver.

"The vehicle is a white Toyota [SUV]. It will have damage to the front passenger side," he said. "Thankfully the injuries to the motorcyclist and his passenger are nowhere near as serious as first believed."

Officers with the Vancouver Police department closed several blocks of Victoria Drive while they investigated the incident.

Clarifications

  • In the immediate aftermath of the crash, police described the two people injured as young people. Police have since clarified their ages as 41, and 29.
