Highway 99 near Lions Bay reopens following 3 hour closure

RCMP confirmed they have opened Highway 99 near Brunswick Beach Road in both directions, after it was closed for more than three hours Wednesday morning due to a collision.

RCMP confirm they have opened Highway 99 near Brunswick Beach Road in both directions, after it was closed for more than three hours Wednesday morning due to a collision.

RCMP opened one northbound lane at about 10:25 AM P.T. Wednesday, and opened both southbound lanes at about 11:00 AM P.T. after clearing the collision scene. 

Three people have been taken to hospital, according to BC Emergency Services. 

One patient was air-lifted to hospital in critical condition, said Sgt. Jolaine Percival with the Squamish RCMP.

A black Mercedes sedan heading north on the Sea to Sky highway near Lions Bay crossed the median and collided with a blue Hyundai Sante Fe in the southbound lane at 7:40 A.M PT Wednesday, according to RCMP.

Integrated collision analysts have been called to the scene to investigate the incident.

Sea to Sky Traffic Services is asking anyone who saw the collision to call 604-892-6100 and site file number 2016-2438.
