Highway 5 open in both directions after collisions near Merritt
5 people taken to hospital after crashes; 1 airlifted in critical condition
Traffic on the Coquihalla Highway was flowing in both directions again Monday morning, after two crashes snarled traffic near Merritt, B.C.
A crash south of the city on Sunday injured five people, according to B.C. Emergency Health Services.
One of those people had to be airlifted to hospital in critical condition, while the other four were in stable condition and transported by ambulance.
Northbound lanes had to be closed on Sunday because of the collision at Exit 238. As of 12:20 a.m. PT, all lanes were open between Hope and Merritt.

Early Monday morning, southbound traffic was still restricted to one lane nine kilometres north of Merritt because of another crash.
