RCMP couldn't confirm the extent of the driver's injuries but said they had called for an air ambulance.
Meanwhile the driver's company, Aggressive Auto Towing says in a Facebook post that their employee is in hospital and will have surgery.
It is also asking for other drivers to slow down and move over.
The crash is being considered a workplace incident, RCMP said, and WorkSafeBC confirmed it has sent investigators to the scene.
The westbound lanes of Highway 1 reopened shortly before 2 p.m. PT after they were closed between Whatcom Road and Sumas Highway.
