A high-risk sex offender in B.C.'s Okanagan has been arrested after a woman was kidnapped and raped.

Police say the woman was picked up while hitchhiking on Highway 97 late Sunday night and taken to a remote cabin.

"It was at this location where the attack took place," said RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk. "This woman was raped."

Moskaluk said the man then forced the woman back into the car and took her to a house in Okanagan Falls, south of Penticton.

"[That's] where later on in the night, she took her first opportunity to flee and immediately called 911," Moskaluk.

Ronald Teneycke, a well-known high-risk sex offender, was arrested on Monday.

He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday on charges of sexual assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.

Teneycke, now 48, was released from prison in 2007 after serving 12 years for kidnapping and raping a 17-year-old girl.

At the time, police issued a public warning about his release.
