High-profile Vancouver city councillor Geoff Meggs says he will seek the provincial NDP nomination to run in the riding of Vancouver-Fairview.
But the nomination is no slam-dunk for Meggs. He'll have to compete with another high-profile candidate — former BCGEU president George Heyman.
Meggs says he will remain on council while he campaigns for the provincial nomination.
"My timing has really been forced by the constituency's decision to have a nomination meeting on October 21. And if I'm going to secure people's support and sign up people they have to be members by July 21, so I really only have a few weeks to go."
The riding of Vancouver-Fairview was once held by Mayor Gregor Robertson when he was an NDP MLA.
