Police have identified the victim of fatal shooting in the parking lot of the Port Moody Recreation Complex on Wednesday night as known gang associate Gurbinder Singh Toor.

Police said Toor, 35, of Squamish, had just arrived at the centre to play ball hockey when he was shot in what was desribed as a targeted hit just before 9:30 p.m. PT. He died in hospital shortly after midnight.

A dark-coloured SUV was reportedly seen fleeing the scene, said a statement released by police on Thursday morning.

"Toor is known to police and has connections to the Dhak-Duhre crime group," Vancouver police said in a release Thursday.

The recreation complex was locked down until midnight, when those inside were allowed to leave, but the parking lot remained roped off overnight.

Police say the centre would be closed on Thursday as homicide investigators examine the scene and speak to witnesses.
