First snow of the winter season on B.C.'s South Coast
Accumulations of up to 5 to 10 cm brings winter wonderland, but also icy roads and accidents
The South Coast received its first snowfall of the winter season overnight and early Saturday morning.
Two to five centimetres of snow fell in Metro Vancouver.
Roads this morning were in pretty good shape and mainly clear in Vancouver, but there were some icy sections in outlying municipalities where a number of fender benders were reported.
In fact as the day wore on and police reports became available a clearer picture began to emerge of just how treacherous the last 24 hours have been.
Both Highway 1 near Brunette Avenue and Highway 99 at Highway 91 were tied up with weather-related accidents that slowed traffic to a crawl early Saturday
There was also a wind warning up for winds of up to 90 kilometres an hour for Howe Sound.
Further east in the B.C. Interior, it was more of a mess with snow downing power lines in some areas.
Highway 3 was closed in the Sparwood area due to white-out conditions and winter driving conditions were in effect tthroughout most of the Columbia Valley and East Kootenays.
But in Vancouver, it was perfect Grey Cup parade weather and perfect weather for a busy Grey Cup weekend.
