Fatal accident in Delta knocks down overhead highway sign, ties up traffic

One person is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Delta, B.C. that caused an overhead highway sign to fall onto the road.

Westbound lanes and 1 eastbound lane on Nordel Way were closed for hours

One person is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Delta, B.C. that caused an overhead highway sign to fall onto the road.

It happened at approximately 2:00 p.m. PT on Nordel Way, just west of 84th Avenue. One car in a westbound lane went off the highway and hit the structure holding up an overhead highway sign, causing part of it to fall. 

The driver was the only person in the vehicle and died at the scene. The cause of the crash is unknown

Both westbound lanes and one eastbound lane of Nordel Way, which connects Highway 91 and 17 to the middle of Surrey, were shut down between Highway 91 and Brooke Road, but fully reopened around 11 p.m.
