Fatal accident closes B.C.'s Sea-to-Sky Highway

Police in Squamish, B.C., say a fatal accident involving three vehicles has resulted in the closure of the Sea to Sky Highway.

A fatal accident involving three vehicles has resulted in the closure of the Sea to Sky Highway near Squamish, B.C.

The RCMP said the accident occurred at 4:45 p.m. Friday in an area near Culliton Creek, which is often referred to as the "Big Orange Bridge.''

Three vehicles were involved in the collision, including a northbound limousine, a northbound passenger vehicle and a southbound school bus.

RCMP Cpl. David Ritchie said one person died and several others were injured, including the occupants of the limousine and passenger vehicle.

The driver and all of the students on the school bus escaped uninjured, the RCMP said.

Northbound traffic is being turned around at Alice Lake — just north of Squamish — to alleviate congestion in the area.
