North Vancouver police aim to reunite discarded family keepsakes with owner
Police say the box of memorabilia was likely stolen, then tossed aside by thieves
Police in North Vancouver are hoping to reunite a box of family memorabilia with its rightful owner.
"We're surmising this may have been stolen from a residence and discarded by thieves," said Cpl. Richard De Jong with North Vancouver RCMP.
It was found near the North Vancouver library and turned into police.
The box once contained Turtles chocolates, but somewhere along the way, somebody filled it with their keepsakes.
There are old photographs inside — a black and white picture of a couple, another of a child, still another of a car. And there are handwritten letters dating back to 1912.
There is also an newspaper cutting of an obituary for Ronald Graham McEachern, dated July 2000.
"Obviously these things have no monetary value by themselves, but the emotional and historical significance of this would be quite significant," said De Jong.
De Jong said a lot of items end up in a police station, but this is unique.
"We'd be more than happy to give it back to the rightful family member," he said.
