Coquitlam RCMP were seeking the public's assistance in locating Forensic Psychiatric Hospital patient Terrance Scott Giesbrecht. (RCMP)

A man who has left a psychiatric hospital in Coquitlam, B.C. has been found and is back in custody.

Terrance Scott Geisbrecht was last seen at Colony Farm  on July 21, but a release notifying the public of his disappearance wasn't issued by Coquitlam RCMP until July 24, along with a warning that he might have already left the Lower Mainland.

"Without his medication, Geisbrecht could become a danger to himself or someone else," said Coquitlam RCMP in a statement.

But just over an hour after notifying the public of Geisbrecht's disappearance, RCMP said he had been found and was in police custody.

Geisbrecht was found not criminally responsible by reason of a mental disorder for the deaths of two men he killed in the northern B.C. city of Fort St. John in 2004.

He also walked away from Colony Farm once before, in 2009, when he was let out on a day pass.
