Earls restaurant shooting linked to low-level drug war: Surrey RCMP
Incident near 72nd Ave. and 120th St. appears to be targeted, say police
Police are investigating after multiple shots were fired near an Earls restaurant in Surrey, B.C. on Monday evening, with bullets striking the building but apparently not injuring anyone.
Patrons were still on the patio of the restaurant when the shooting happened at about 9 p.m. PT near the intersection of 72nd Ave. and 120th St.
Police say the intended targets appear to be two men who had been eating at the restaurant. They apparently fled in a blue vehicle before police arrived. The suspects, meanwhile, were said to have taken off in a silver SUV-type vehicle.
The Surrey RCMP says the investigation is still in its early stages. However, police do believe the incident is linked to a recent spate of drug-related shootings in Delta and Surrey.
"We will be investigating this matter thoroughly in consultation with our partner agencies," said Sgt. Dale Carr in a statement.
"We have recovered a substantial amount of evidence at the scene and believe we will be able to identify some of these people quickly."
In a statement on Twitter, Earls Restaurants said there was minor damage to an exterior wall, but no guests or staff were injured.
It is offering guests who may have been affected by the shooting access to professional counselling services.
