Ducks rescued by police from VPD headquarters
The mother and her ducklings had become stranded on a ledge
A mother and her ducklings are happily settled on the waters of False Creek after they were spotted trapped on a rooftop ledge of Vancouver Police Department headquarters on Sunday.
Officers were alerted to the distressed ducks — the mother is thought to have laid her eggs on the rooftop garden, then was unable to find a way out for her newborns — and quickly hatched a plan to rescue them.
Three officers and a wildlife rescue volunteer encouraged the babies into a cardboard box and down to street level. The mother, spotting her babies down below, flew down to join them, then was enticed along the road towards False Creek.
Traffic — from cars and bikes to pedestrians — was stopped to allow safe passage to the feathered family, until they were safely released at the water's edge.
