Driver crashes car into Surrey fitness gym
No one was hurt in the crash, according to the Surrey fire department
A driver crashed a car into the Fit for Women Gym in Surrey Monday afternoon, according to the Surrey fire department.
The department received the call at 12:34 p.m. PT.
No one, including the two occupants in the car, was hurt, the fire department confirmed.
"Our first in crews got there and confirmed there was a vehicle in the building and there were no injuries," said Richard Ellis, battalion chief for Surrey Fire Services.
There were only a few people in the gym when the crash happened, said Ellis.
"Everybody was taken outside just for precautionary reasons. Luckily there was nobody in the immediate area."
The structural integrity of the building remains intact despite the crash.
"There was no structural support right where it went through, so it was basically just the window that it took out," he said.
Ellis suspects the driver made an honest mistake. Photos show a learner driver sign on the bumper of the car.
"I think the car was just at the parking spot right there and maybe [they] put it in the wrong gear and went forward instead of reverse."
"It's unfortunate but luckily no one was hurt."
The case is now with the RCMP, who did not make anyone available for comment.
The gym did not return CBC's request for comment.
