Dix names B.C. NDP shadow cabinet
B.C. NDP leader Adrian Dix has named two of his former rivals for the party leadership to key roles in his shadow cabinet.
Mike Farnworth, who finished second in the leadership race, lost his old job as house leader but was made health critic —the job Dix used to hold — while John Horgan was made house leader and energy critic.
Dix says Horgan and Farnworth will be on the front bench with him when the house opens on Wednesday.
"They were terrific candidates for the leadership. They're going to be key members of my team," he said.
Dix said former party leader Carole James did not wish to be in the shadow cabinet, but remains an important member of his team.
Bruce Ralston retains his post in finance, and Leonard Krog remains attorney general critic. Maurine Karagianis is the caucus whip and Shane Simpson the caucus chair.
Dix says his team will present a clear contrast to the B.C. Liberal government with concrete ideas on the economy, health care, education, the environment and social justice.
Dix won the leadership of the NDP earlier this month after James was forced to step down.
