Divers have recovered the body of the driver of a tractor-trailer that plunged into Shuswap Lake east of Chase.

Divers have recovered the body of the driver of a tractor-trailer that plunged into Shuswap Lake east of Chase.

The accident is believed to have occurred early Tuesday morning, and Cpl. Mark Skotnicki says it's likely the driver drowned.

He says the roof of the truck's cab had been ripped off on impact and divers found the man's body about 10 metres away from the sunken wreckage, while the floating trailer of the unit was pulled to shore by a tow crew.

The semi has Alberta licence plates, but the identity of the driver and his hometown have not been determined.

Police and the B.C. Coroners Service are continuing their investigation into what caused the crash.
