Road reopens after train cars derail in New Westminster
Around 'half a dozen' CN Railway cars left the tracks near Front Street
Several train cars derailed in New Westminster, B.C., early Wednesday morning, closing a nearby road for hours.
Police said around "half a dozen" CN Railway cars derailed near the Front Street overpass just after 3:20 a.m. PT.
Staff Sgt. Ryan Long said the train wasn't carrying any hazardous materials at the time and no one was injured.
Front Street was closed between Columbia Street and Begbie Street as railway crews worked to get train cars back on the tracks. The stretch re-opened just after 8:45 a.m. PT.
Amtrak train service between Vancouver and Seattle has been temporarily closed. Amtrak says it is offering Thruway buses as substitute transportation until the rail line reopens.
Front Street is currently closed East and Westbound due to a CN Rail incident.
