Police asking for public's help investigating death of Deanna Desjarlais
Body of Cree woman from Saskatoon was found in Surrey, B.C. in May but only identified in September
Police in Surrey are asking for the public's help in their investigation into the death of a young Cree woman from Saskatoon.
Deanna Desjarlais, 27, was found dead in a Surrey, B.C. park on May 17, but Surrey RCMP say they were unable to identify her until September 13 because of her decomposed state.
Her family had last heard from her in late April, when she was travelling from Saskatoon to Vernon, B.C.
Police are now trying to piece together her movements between then and when she was found.
"The Surrey RCMP is asking anyone who may have seen Ms. Desjarlais in the weeks leading up to May 17 to call us," said Cpl. Scotty Schumann in a statement.
"If we can determine her movements during this time, it may assist us in determining what ultimately led to her unfortunate death."
The B.C. Coroners Service continues to investigate but no cause of death has been determined.
Any one with information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, or if they wish to stay anonymous, Crime Stoppers, at 1-800-222-8477.
