Daniel Alphonse Paul pleads not guilty to killing Crystal Rose Paul

The man accused of killing 36-year-old mother-of-five, Crystal Rose Paul, who was found dead in her East Vancouver basement suite, has pleaded not guilty to her slaying.

The man accused of killing 36-year-old mother-of-five, Crystal Rose Paul, who was found dead in her East Vancouver basement suite, has pleaded not guilty to her slaying.

Daniel Alphonse Paul, 42, was arrested in April, after a month-long search that reached as far as the U.S.

He was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after two officers spotted him riding his bike on Broadway in Vancouver, a few blocks away from a police station.

Paul appeared by video link in court Friday. He wore a red T-shirt, spoke only to answer "yes" three times, and showed no emotion during the proceedings.

His lawyer, John Turner, entered the plea of not guilty, and elected for a trial in front of a B.C. Supreme Court judge and jury.

A date for the trial has not yet been set.
