Coquitlam crash kills 1 person, injures 2 others
Police called to crash on Schoolhouse Street near Lucille Starr Way on Thursday evening
One person was killed in a two-vehicle collision near the Maillardville neighbourhood of Coquitlam on Thursday evening, RCMP said.
Police said they were called to a crash between an SUV and a sedan on Schoolhouse Street near Lucille Starr Way at 7:20 p.m. PT.
"What appears to have happened was a vehicle was driving southbound on Schoolhouse, and another vehicle was pulling out of a parking lot and was struck by the vehicle that was on Schoolhouse," said RCMP Sgt. Quentin Frewing.
The driver of the vehicle leaving the parking lot died on scene, while a passenger in the vehicle suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle also suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Northbound and southbound lanes on Schoolhouse Street between Booth Avenue and Lucille Starr Way were closed overnight while crash investigators processed evidence.
Frewing says it's too early to tell whether speed or impairment were factors in the collision.
Anyone who witnessed or has dashcam video of the crash who hasn't yet spoken with police is asked to contact Coquitlam RCMP.
