RCMP say a B.C. woman was the victim of back-to-back hit-and-run drivers in Coquitlam, B.C., earlier this year.

The police force says charges have been approved against two separate people in the incident, which happened on the evening of Jan. 27.

Police say that based on their investigation, the woman had the right of way and was legally crossing the intersection at Pinetree Way and Guildford Way when she was struck by the first vehicle.

The driver left the scene with the woman unconscious, and a short time later, she was hit a second time. That driver also left.

Const. John Graham says that after a "lengthy, detailed" investigation, the B.C. Prosecution has approved charges of failing to stop after an accident causing bodily harm against both drivers in what he called a "serious and senseless incident."

He also extended thanks to several witnesses who helped in the aftermath.

He says the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries and continues to recover.
