BC Ferries says regular sailings resume Tuesday morning

Two weeks after repairs forced the Queen of Burnaby off the Powell River to Comox run, BC Ferries says the vessel is ready to return to service.

The ferry underwent sea trials Sunday to test repairs to its port propeller and hydraulic control system, and it is being moved to Comox on Monday with its first sailing to Powell River set for Tuesday at 6:30 a.m. PT.

While the 192-car Queen of Burnaby was out of service, it was replaced by the 49-car North Island Princess, raising concerns that Powell River residents could have trouble reaching medical or other appointments in Comox.

BC Ferries offered charter flights between Powell River and Comox for the same price as ferry passage, but that service ends after Tuesday's scheduled flights are completed.
