City of Surrey cracks down on illegal fireworks
City seizes a record number of illegal fireworks over 2-day period
The City of Surrey has seized a record number of illegal fireworks and firecrackers in a 48 hour period this week.
A statement from the municipality says bylaw enforcement officers have seized $100,000 worth of illegal fireworks so far this Halloween season, and they will continue to crack down on vendors over the weekend and next week.
The operation targeted businesses, mobile vendors and those selling the items out of their private residences.

It has been illegal to sell or discharge fireworks in the City of Surrey since 2005.
Penalties for selling or discharging fireworks can range from $1,000 in fines to the loss of a business license.
A number of cities and districts in the region, including Vancouver, allow those with proper permits to sell and discharge fireworks during the Halloween period.
