Chilliwack dog-stabbing suspect dies in RCMP custody, IIO investigates

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is investigating the death of a man while in Chilliwack RCMP custody.
Police were called to a report of a man allegedly stabbing a dog in the 9700 block of Oak Street just after 4 p.m. PT Wednesday.
Police say the suspect struggled with officers during their attempts to arrest him, and a Taser was deployed.
After the arrest, Chilliwack RCMP say paramedics took over as the man appeared to be unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police say one officer was also injured during the incident, but he was treated at the hospital and released.
The dog that the suspect was allegedly stabbing was taken to the vet for treatment.
