A four-year-old child who fell from a second-floor balcony of a building in Surrey, B.C. was not seriously harmed.

According to Surrey RCMP, the child climbed onto a chair and on top of the balcony railing on Thursday around 3:30 p.m. A neighbour saw him fall approximately three meters to the soft ground, and took him back inside to his family.

Emergency responders rushed the child from the building in the 14900 block of 105th Avenue to a hospital as a precaution, even though police say he was was not displaying any signs of injury.

Surrey police are warning families to be cautious about leaving windows and patio doors open, especially during warmer weather.

"This offers a very inviting situation to young children," Surrey police say. "Young children do not understand the consequences of the injuries that could occur with these type of falls."
