Charles Oudie, a 26-year-old man, has been identified by friends and family as the man whose body was found in a storm drain in an East Vancouver neighbourhood this past weekend.

Police have deemed the death suspicious, but others believe the grisly discovery may have just been a tragic accident.

Oudie may have been retrieving a dropped phone or set of keys.

Friends have been coming by the drain where his body was found to drop off flowers and pay their respects.

"When you have a loss in the family it is very, very hard for everyone," said Nick D'Aversa, an emotional neighbour who bought Oudie's family tea and water.

"They say he was a good kid, was going to school, was working, doing all the right things."

Oudie's relatives and friends have set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for his funeral and the travel costs of his family in Vancouver, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. They have also set up a Facebook page to solicit tips
