Charges laid in B.C. gang killings

The charges are linked to the shootings of Jonathan Barber and Kevin LeClair, RCMP Dale Carr announced at a news conference Monday.

Barber was killed in May 2008 when he was shot in the 7000 block of Kingsway while driving a luxury SUV belonging to a man police identified as a known gang member. Barber, a car stereo specialist and who police say had no gang involvement, had been hired to install some audio gear in the vehicle and was taking it to his residence to do the installation.

Barber's girlfriend, Vicki King, was travelling behind Barber in a separate vehicle and was also seriously injured in the attack.

Twenty-six-year-old Kevin LeClair, who police say was a high-ranking member of the Red Scorpion gang, was gunned down outside the Thunderbird Shopping Centre in Langley as he sat in his truck in February 2009.

Charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Barber and the attempted murder of King are Dan Russell, of Richmond, Dilun Hung, of Mission, Karwan Saed, of Burnaby, Ion Kroitoru, of Surrey and Yon Lee, of Surrey.

All were arrested in May 2009 in connection with drug, gun and conspiracy to committ murder charges and have remained in custody since their arrests.

Two men charged with the first-degree murder in the death of Kevin LeClair are not in custody and Canada-wide warrants have been issued for their arrests, Carr said.

They are Conor D'Monte, 33, of Vancouver, and Cory Valle, 34, of no fixed address.

Carr said both men are considered armed and very dangerous and the public is warned not to approach them.
