It was just sheer luck that no one was injured after a computer chair and other items were chucked from a highhrise in Vancouver's West End on Saturday.

Police responded to several 911 calls about objects being thrown from an apartment at 1650 Haro St. around 3 p.m., some of which was caught on camera and posted to Reddit.

Victoria Nguyen, who shot the video from her balcony across the street, said the loud crashes and sound of glass shattering echoed all over the neighbourhood. She shot video of some paper and a computer chair being tossed out.

"I'm thinking someone's down there breaking car windows," she said.

But then she realized the sound was actually coming from items being pushed out.

"I hear a man on the street yelling at the top of his lungs to make them stop. The crashes and frantic screaming continued on," she said.

"He had to push out and break the window frame to get everything big out, so that fell down as well."

Man was under influence of drugs: police

Vancouver police said a 56-year-old man was arrested for mischief, as he allegedly threw several small to medium sized pieces of furniture out of his balcony from the 19th floor.

"Investigators believed the man was under the influence of drugs and that he was acting alone," said Sgt. Jason Robillard. "He was transported to hospital for a medical evaluation and has since been released but remained in police custody."

The man has been charged with several crimes for damages caused to an unoccupied parked vehicle, the apartment building and mischief for endangering lives.
