Ferry stuck in Prince Rupert terminal after failure of fire-detection system
BC Ferries says a specialist from Miami is needed to fix ship's mechanical problem
A B.C. ferry with mechanical problems has been stuck in the Prince Rupert terminal since Sunday morning.
The Northern Adventure was unable to leave at its scheduled 10 a.m. PT departure time to Skidegate, B.C., because of an issue with the boat's fire detection system, according to BC Ferries spokesperson Deborah Marshall.
She said the ship will remain docked until a piece of equipment is located to fix the problem.
A statement from BC Ferries said it needs a specialist from Miami to come attend to the vessel.

"We are very sorry about the situation but we cannot sail without that piece of equipment," said Marshall.
Marshall said BC Ferries will be working with customers on a case-by-case basis and will try to rebook them on future sailings when the problem is resolved.
She could not confirm when the ferry will be back in service.
