Boy, 2, pepper-sprayed in road rage attack
'His whole face was swollen... and he was screaming'
A two-and-a-half-year-old boy was caught in a pepper spray attack in a Surrey, B.C., park Monday, when his father was assaulted in an apparent act of road rage from a passing car.
Dayton was out playing with his parents in a park near 125th Street and 77th Avenue, when a black Range Rover went speeding past.
According to police, Dayton's father shouted at the driver to slow down. There was then an exchange of words and the vehicle took off, but came back a few minutes later.
Someone in the back seat then allegedly pepper-sprayed Dayton's father in the face.
Dayton's mother, Sara Barratt, says the two-year-old ended up breathing some of the chemical residue.
"His whole face was swollen to the point where, I would say, his face was twice the normal size. And he was screaming," she said.
Christine Powley's four-year-old son, who suffers from asthma, and another child were also playing at the park at the time.
"He could have been put in the hospital last night. If he got in actual contact with the spray, he could have been in hospital with extreme breathing problems. That was the scariest part," said Powley.
All the victims were treated on scene. No one was injured in the attack.
Police say they are now looking for the black Range Rover and three young men believed to be the occupants.
