Salt Spring RCMP are investigating after a recreational fisherman discovered a man's body on the bank of a creek in Fulford Harbour, near the old Fulford Inn on Saturday evening.

The area remains behind police tape as the RCMP, BC Coroners Service, and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit continue to investigate.

The Salt Spring detachment commander said in a release there are several unanswered questions, but nothing to suggest islanders are at risk.

"Given that the man's cause of death is not yet known, we are not yet able to confirm whether foul play was involved," said Sgt. George Jenkins in the release.

Police believe they know who the deceased man is, but are not yet identifying him publicly.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Salt Spring RCMP at 250-537-5555 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
