Best album ever: On The Coast listeners make a decision

After weeks of submissions, hundreds of options and a furious weekend of voting, On The Coast listeners have their pick for the best album ever. Find out which one they picked.

Can we get a drumroll please?

The polls have closed, the results are in, and On The Coast listeners have chosen an album as the greatest ever.

After hundreds of submissions and weeks of voting, the honour has gone to...

Abbey Road by The Beatles!

That album beat out the other finalists, The Joshua Tree by U2, Graceland by Paul Simon, London Calling by The Clash, and Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd — which was a very close second place, losing 472 to 445.

"A fine choice, an iconic album," said On The Coast's Lisa Christensen. "We here at On The Coast set out criteria that we wanted people to follow: good songs, flow, an album cover that everyone recognizes. It was all there. So in terms of what we wanted people to think about, good choice!"

On The Coast listeners submitted lots of great options in their emails, many with impassioned cases for why their choice is the true best album ever.

So this week, On The Coast will be playing some choice cuts from the albums that didn't make the final five.

Tune into the show, 3–6 p.m. on CBC Radio One in Vancouver, to hear more candidates for best album ever.
