West Kelowna residents whose homes are threatened by the Bear Creek fire no longer on evacuation alert.

An evacuation alert was rescinded for 80 properties in the Okanagan area on July 22. by Central Okanagan Emergency Operations.

An evacuation order affecting 70 home remains in place for the Westside Road fire, also near West Kelowna.

"More rain would be nice," said Ryan Turcot of B.C. Wildfire Service, who noted the forecast for the southern areas plagued by fire may see some precipitation. 

All together, 248 fires are burning in B.C., but only 12 new blazes started in the past day, down considerably from the 43 in one day yesterday, and up to 100 a day at the peak of the hot weather.

The rescinded evacuation includes properties on Parkinson, Bear Creek,Bear Creek Main, Rose Valley, Petterson and Dougmac Roads.

BC Wildfire Service firefighters are monitoring the fire and urging people to stay out of fire-affected areas.

Residents are told to "prepare to be self sufficient for at least 72 hours" and check out the "Be Prepared" link.
