British Columbia has a new solicitor general who will also be responsible for public safety.

Mike Morris has taken over responsibility from Suzanne Anton, who remains justice minister and attorney general.

Morris served with the RCMP for 32 years and retired in 2005 as the superintendent in B.C.'s North District.

The past president of the B.C. Trappers Association is a rookie member of the legislature, elected two years ago to represent the Prince George-Mackenzie riding.

Morris has also been an adjudicator and mediator with the Health Professions Review Board.

In an interview two days ago, B.C. Premier Christy Clark said she wasn't planning a cabinet shuffle and that all her ministers were doing a great job.
