B.C. Fires: Evacuation order issued near Falkland due to Bolean Lake wildfire
Those at Bolean Lake Resort ordered to move out, 24 other nearby properties are on evacuation alert
An evacuation order has been issued for the Bolean Lake Resort due to an aggressive wildfire near Falkland.
Meanwhile a separate evacuation alert is in place 24 properties which are also threatened by the Bolean Lake wildfire.
The fire is located 22 kilometres southwest of Salmon Arm and is now 300 hectares in size. The closest community to the blaze is Falkland.
Officials are asking residents around Bolean Lake to leave immediately. Those requiring emergency services are asked to report to the Highland Motel at 2968 Adelphi Road in Falkland.
Meanwhile those impacted by the alert are asked to be organized to move out of the area should conditions change further west of the fire.
The fire centre says winds gusting up to 60 kilometres per hour have rapidly increased the fire's size. As a result, water bombers and helicopters are unable to fly into the area at present. The BC Wildfire Service is expanding the number of firefighters on the ground from five to 25.
The evacuation alert, issued communicated to residents by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District includes homes along the Chase-Falkland Road.
Earlier Monday evening a seperate evacuation alert was issued for 28 homes in the Thompson-Nicola region because of an aggressive wildfire burning between the villages of Logan Lake and Ashcroft.
The Kamloops Fire Centre says on Sunday there were 1,200 lightning strikes recorded during thunderstorms in the region. The centre has responded to 24 new wildfires as a result.
