The Canadian Avalanche Centre is warning people to be careful when heading out into B.C.'s backcountry in the Sea to Sky corridor and around the North Shore mountains.

The centre said new snow may not bond well with the existing snow surface, pushing the avalanche risk up in many spots through those areas.

The centre said the avalanche risk would be high in alpine areas of the Sea to Sky corridor, as well as alpine areas of the Duffy Lake area.

Several avalanches were reported in the region over the past few days, the centre said, most of which were in steep sun-exposed terrain.

On the North Shore mountains, officials say the avalanche risk will be highest in and around the tree line.

That high ranking is expected to continue into Thursday.
