Police arrest man in sexual assault of senior in Surrey
Attack was 'repulsive,' Mountie says
Police have arrested a man in connection with the sexual assault of a 70-year-old woman in south Surrey last month.
RCMP are recommending several charges against the 42-year-old man, including aggravated sexual assault, forcible confinement, break and enter, robbery with a firearms and disguise with intent.
Police have not released the name of the suspect. Previously, they said the man was armed when he entered the woman's home in South Surrey in the middle of the afternoon on Aug. 12 and demanded cash and other items
The attack sparked neighbourhood concern. Residents said they were worried about break-ins and property crimes in the area even before the woman was robbed.
"This type of crime is repulsive and I'd like to also acknowledge the men and women that work at this detachment who worked relentlessly to advance this important investigation," said RCMP Chief Superintendent Bill Fordy in a statement.
