Anti-war protesters rally at Peace Arch Park

More than 300 anti-war activists from Canada and the U.S. rallied atPeace Arch Park at the Canada-U.S. border south of Vancouver on Sunday.

The demonstrators includedabout 200 members of U.S. Veterans for Peace,who joined the call for the United States to pull its military out of Iraq.

"People who have been to war are much more likely to be anti-war because they have seen the reality, the brutality of war," said event organizer Gerry Condon.

The protesters, including Kyle Snyder, 22,also called on Prime Minister Stephen Harper to grant sanctuary to Iraq war veterans who have fled the U.S. military.

Snydersaid he hopes Canada will help deserters because they lefta lot behind when they crossed the border.

"We're still facing the fact that we had to leave our country.We had to leave our families behind.We had to leave everything behind on the chance Canada would let us live like normal human beings again," Snyder said.

Snyder said he is applying for refugee status, asare about 20 other former U.S. soldiers who want tostay in Canada.
