Allan Schoenborn, child killer, wants escorted day trips

The B.C. man who killed his three children in a Merritt trailer home is once again seeking escorted day trips away from psychiatric hospital in Port Coquitlam.

Schoenborn, who murdered his 3 children, says he'll try to control his anger

Allan Schoenborn, who was found not criminally responsible in the 2010 killing of his three children in a Merritt, B.C., trailer home, is once again seeking to get escorted day trips away from the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital.

Allan Schoenborn, the B.C. man who murdered his three children in a Merritt trailer home, said he won't try to escape if he gets permission to go on escorted day trips away from the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Port Coquitlam, B.C.

Under intense questioning by a Crown lawyer on Thursday, Schoenborn told the B.C. Review Board that he would walk away if someone called him a child killer.

Schoenborn stayed calm while answering about an hour and a half of questions, saying he would try to control his anger in certain situations.

His psychiatrist and the hospital's director are advocating for Schoenborn's limited access to the community, but the Crown maintains he is still a threat to public safety.

Schoenborn killed his daughter and two sons in their Merritt home in April 2008 and was found not criminally responsible on account of a mental disorder.

The victims' family opposes any freedom for Schoenborn while the hospital's director says outings would help his rehabilitation and involve a high level of supervision over only a few hours.
