Abbotsford man charged with 2nd-degree murder after death of wife

An Abbotsford man has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to the death of his wife on Friday night.

An Abbotsford man has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to the death of his wife on Friday night.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said in a Sunday statement that the Abbotsford Police Department were called to a home at the 3400 block of Wagner Drive around 10:50 p.m. PT on Friday.

Responding to calls of an assault in progress, they found 41-year-old Balwinder Kaur suffering from life-threatening stab wounds. She later died in hospital, according to IHIT.

On Saturday, Kaur's husband Jagpreet Singh was charged with second-degree murder in relation to the fatal stabbing. Singh, 50, was arrested on the scene.

"This was an isolated incident," says Sgt. Timothy Pierotti in a statement, adding the police will keep investigating in the coming days and work "to support the community affected by this tragedy."
