2 men shot at Surrey gas station
6 shootings in 24 hours in Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey
Two men were shot Wednesday night at a gas station in Surrey, B.C., police said. It was the sixth shooting in Metro Vancouver in 24 hours.
Surrey RCMP received reports of shots fired shortly after 7 p.m. PT at the Chevron gas station at 122 Street and 72A Avenue, said Insp. Dave Walsh, the RCMP Lower Mainland District's duty officer.
Several police vehicles and ambulances were sent to the crime scene, which was closed off by police tape.
Witnesses said one man was shot in the head and another was shot in the leg.
"There were two males, one in the vehicle, the other gassing up," Walsh said. "Another male approached. There were shots fired."
Both men from the vehicle suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital, Walsh said.
"The only description of the suspect at this point in time is a non-white male who fled on foot and, we believe, was picked up nearby by a beige vehicle."
Wednesday night's shooting is the sixth case of gun violence in Metro Vancouver over the last 24 hours.
2 shot dead on Tuesday
On Tuesday night, two people were killed and three men were wounded in five separate shootings in Burnaby, Vancouver and Surrey.
A woman was killed and a man was seriously wounded in the first incident, a shooting in the 25th-floor penthouse of a luxury high-rise at 2345 Madison Ave. in Burnaby, shortly after 8 p.m. PT.
In the second fatal shooting of the night, Vancouver police found a man in his 20s slumped over the steering wheel of his car in Vancouver's eastside neighbourhood.
He had been killed in what appeared to be a targeted hit sometime after 9 p.m. at East 3rd Avenue and Kaslo Street, Insp. Bob Chapman said.
Police identified him as Sunil Mall, 27. Police said the shooting was targeted, and investigators are trying to determine whether it was gang-related.
3 shootings in Surrey
Surrey RCMP handled three shootings Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, but none resulted in fatalities.
The first shooting took place shortly after 8 p.m. in the area of 130th Street and 68A Avenue, where reports of shots fired were called in to police, Surrey RCMP Sgt. Roger Morrow said.
A white SUV was seen fleeing the area, where a 22-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the mid-body. He was taken to a Surrey hospital and is expected to live, Morrow said.
Another shooting occurred just before midnight when a series of shots were fired at a home in the area of 154th Street and 110th Avenue. The home, police said, is a known source of crack cocaine. No one was reported injured.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday, a man suffering a single gunshot wound to the leg was taken to hospital, Morrow said.
The 22-year-old was known to be involved in the illegal drug trade and police believe the gun violence took place near 180th Street and 32nd Avenue, Morrow said.
