UPDATE: Underwater RCMP team aids search for 3rd missing man after 2 bodies found
A weekend search for three young men on southern Vancouver Island has ended in tragedy.
RCMP said two bodies believed to be two of the men have been recovered after a days-long search. Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said the vehicle the men had used was found near Sooke River Road on Sunday.
The search for the third man continued throughout Sunday until nightfall with the help of Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue and community volunteers. The search is expected to resume Monday.
"We had over 200 people out helping us today," Victoria Weber, senior SAR manager, said Sunday. "The community has just absolutely rallied."
RCMP said Cory Mills, Eric Blackmore and A.J. Jensen, all 20 years old, were last seen at a home in Sooke, B.C., late Friday night. Mounties said the two bodies recovered have not yet been officially identified.
The men were in a 2004 blue Dodge Dakota and it was unclear where they were going.
"The vehicle was found in the Sooke River and it's not really clear what happened," Weber said. "Our search helicopter spotted the vehicle."
Search and rescue teams from other communities will help on Monday, Weber said.
The B.C. Coroners Service is also investigating the men's deaths.
