One person is dead after a shooting in a residential area of Chilliwack, B.C., on Tuesday evening, according to RCMP.

Mounties said neighbours reported gunshots inside a home in the 9700-block of Windsor Street around 5:45 p.m. PT.

First responders found a wounded man inside the house. The 34-year-old was taken to hospital, where he died.

Shortly after, an SUV was found burning in the 4600-block of Bailey Road, a rural area of the city about eight kilometres south of the scene of the shooting.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, which has taken over the case, said the killing and the burning SUV are connected.

"We're still looking to learn as much as we can and I hope to have more information later today," said IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti.

Investigators believe the shooting was targeted and are looking into whether there is any link to gang conflicts in the Lower Mainland.

Anyone who has information about the case or dashcam footage is asked to contact IHIT.
