WorkSafeBC investigating after worker died on site at Customs House building
WorkSafeBC is investigating after a man died at a construction site at the Customs House building in downtown Victoria on Tuesday.
Officers from the Victoria Police Department responded to reports that a man had suffered potentially life-threatening injuries near the 800-block of Government Street around 4 p.m. PT.
The BC Coroners Service later confirmed the man's death.
B.C. Emergency Health Services also responded, Victoria police said in a statement.
"Our thoughts are with the victim's family and those affected by this incident," the department wrote.
WorkSafeBC confirmed Wednesday its Occupational Health and Safety Investigation Services team has launched an investigation.
Such investigations are done to try to determine the cause of the workplace incident and any contributing factors in an effort to prevent similar injuries or deaths in future.
Traffic on both Wharf Street and Government Street was blocked briefly as police responded to the incident.
