At least one person was killed and another seriously injured Tuesday afternoon following a single-vehicle crash on the Coquihalla Highway in southern B.C., police confirmed.

The RCMP received a call at about 2 p.m. reporting an accident involving a pickup truck that was carrying seven occupants, Const. Lea-Anne Dunlop said.

"There is one confirmed fatality. One individual was air-lifted with serious injuries to hospital, and everyone else appears to be OK or at least with non-life-threatening injuries at this point," Dunlop told CBC News.

Two helicopters and several ambulances were on the scene, about two kilometres east of the old toll booths on the highway.

A coroner and police reconstruction analysts were called to the scene, Dunlop said.

Initial reports said at least seven people were taken to a hospital in Hope. Some were believed to be children.

Dunlop said she had no personal information on the people involved in the crash.

Road conditions in the area are slippery and snowy, according to the B.C. Ministry of Highways website.
