Bodies of Canadian soldiers returned home

The bodies of six Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan were returned home Wednesday night as news broke that two more soldiers had died in the region.

The militaryaircraft carrying the remains of Sgt. Don Lucas, Master Cpl. Chris Stannix, Corporals Aaron Williams and Brent Poland, and Privates David Greenslade and Kevin Kennedy touched down at CFB Trenton in eastern Ontario.

They were killed by a roadside bomb 75 kilometres west of Kandahar City on Sunday.

About 1,000 soldiers stood at attention on Tuesday in a ramp ceremony in Kandahar as the bodies of the six soldiers were loaded onto the plane for the journey home.

Families of the soldiers had asked that the media not be allowed on the tarmac when the plane arrived at Trenton. The Canadians Forces was allowed to shoot footage of the ramp ceremony.

The bodies arrived the same day the military confirmed thattwoCanadian soldierswere killed and three were injured in two separate roadside bombings in Afghanistan on Wednesday.

The attacks happened within hours of each other, in locationsless than one kilometre apart, saidCol. Mike Cessford of the Canadian Armed Forces.

The names of the injured and dead were not released immediately, as thesoldiers'families had not yet been notified.
