Toyota recalls and advisories timeline

Toyota has announced it is recalling 7.43 million cars worldwide — almost 240,000 in Canada alone — due to a faulty power-window switch.

The recall announced Wednesday is the latest quality woe for Japan's largest automaker.

Here are a list of some of the major safety recalls and advisories Toyota has issued in recent years:

• October 2012: Toyota issues a recall of 7.4 million vehicles worldwide, and 240,000 in Canada, over a faulty power-window switch on which grease was not evenly applied during production, causing friction and smoke.
• February 2011: Toyota issued a recall for 147,000 cars in Canada because of links to the company's unintended acceleration problems that originally surfaced in 2009.
• January 2011: Toyota recalls nearly 1.7 million vehicles worldwide — 11,700 of which in Canada — for various defects that may cause fuel leakage.
• August 2010: Toyota recalls 1.13 million Corolla sedans and Matrix hatchbacks globally — and roughly 200,000 in Canada — because the engines were at risk of stalling.
• April 2010: Toyota recalls 870,000 of its Sienna minivans in Canada and the U.S. due to a potential problem with the cable that secures the spare tire.
• February 2010: Toyota recalls about 437,000 Prius and other models globally to fix brake problems.
• January 2010: Toyota recalls approximately 2.3 million vehicles in the U.S. and Canada on specific models including the RAV4, Corolla and Avalon, over accelerator problems.
• January 2010: Japan's largest automaker later announced the recall of an additional 1.09 million cars in the U.S., and 270,000 in Canada, over accelerator pedal problems.
• January 2010: Toyota suspends the sales of eight recalled vehicle models in Canada and the U.S. over sticking accelerator pedals.
• November 2009: Toyota announces it will replace gas pedal on 3.8 million recalled vehicles in the U.S. to deal with sudden acceleration or the pedal becoming stuck in the floor mat. The number was later raised to 4.2 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles.
